Hines Bridge Opening Delayed

Massachusetts Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Verseckes said the original projection estimated an early finish taking place in May 2012, should the project go without a hitch.  Now, the best-case scenario for the reopening of the 1st Lt. Derek S. Hines Memorial Bridge, a vital link between Amesbury and Newburyport, has been pushed back two months from May of next year to July, the state’s transportation department confirmed this week.

Amesbury Mayor Thatcher Kezer said yesterday he wasn’t overly concerned with the adjusted completion schedule, adding that the February 2013 date would still fall before the expected start of the massive Whittier Memorial Bridge project, expected to begin in spring 2013 and end in summer 2016.
